Unlock 1.0: Shopping malls, restaurants, temples in Kolkata embrace new Covid-reality
As Unlock 1.0 came into force on Monday, restaurants, malls and places of worship reopened across West Bengal.
Anindo Palit, one of the directors of 6 Ballygunge Place said, “We are following all the directives given by the government as well as the hygiene code and regulations. As a person enters, we check the temperature and give them the shoe covers, then the sanitizers, and then they walk in and go to their table."
Even ordering is a contactless experience. "There is a QR code. The customers scan the QR code and get the menu and they can directly order using the QR code. Then, we are trying to serve everything in disposables and finally at the end of the meal that can settle the bill also by contactless payment method," Anindo Palit told India Today.
Palit says that the restaurant is striving to minimize contact between customers and servers.
"There are two challenges, one is, of course, the customers and the other is, employees. As employees come in, their hands and feet are sanitized and their temperature is taken before entry," Palit said.
"The kitchen staff has been instructed to wear PPE kits and gloves. The restaurant is fogged and the surfaces are sanitized twice a day. We are doing all this to ensure the health of our customers and staff," he said.
One of the customers, enjoying his meal after almost 75 days of lockdown in the restaurant, said although it is a completely different experience, he’s quite enjoying himself, "They have minimized any contact. They are using sanitized crockery and serving food in handmade plates that are disposable."
Another female customer said that it felt good to be out. "It is totally different but it is good," she said.
